Rag Quilt

This is a rag quilt that I created for my granddaughter after she saw one that I created for a baby. That one was only a lap size but this one fits a full bed and was two layers of fleece so it was extra warm.
I cut a total of ten yards of fabric (2 of each of the solids and 4 yards of the print) using a 9.5" ruler for the squares.
The pattern was created in Electric Quilt so that I could use all the squares and the front layer is different from the back. I had 3 squares leftover and was 9 squares by 11 squares.

FRONT: BACK:

First, I had to match the front and back and then quilt with a serpentine stitch, sew the rows together and then joined the rows.

Each layer had to be trimmed separately so it I did it in sections of 5 and then six rows so it would be easier to trim. Close up of the quilt stitch.

Fall Embroidery

I have been enjoying the weather lately before it turns snowy and this is a project that I created awhile ago.
Using my off white scraps, I created this place mat size table cover. The squares are only 2.5" so they do use the smallest of scraps. After piecing, I did the embroidery with several layers of stabilizer because the design is very dense(43,398 stitches) I the added the border and then since it was small, I quilted just around the border and the design. Added a binding and was done. Could have been quicker if I put the batting, backing and front with right sides together, stitch and then turned.. This is a closeup of the Deb Strain design.

Valentines Table runner

Before the month is done, I thought I would post some of the projects that I did from Valentine's day. Here is a quilted table runner done with two panels of a pre printed panel that I bought two years ago in San Marcos, Ca. at Eleanore Burns store " Quilt In A Day". Very simple and outlined quilted with nylon thread in the top and red rayon thread in the bobbin, around the baskets to make it look like hand quilting. Just trying to finish things up around here.

Craft Fair Items

I'm back, Summer illness does take its toll on me but now I'm better. I've made this several years ago but it is still in my possession with my Christmas Crafts. I found these two very rich looking stretch velour to make this project and I think it looks better than it would have in calico fabrics. They both are stretchy fabrics which in this project it was easy to work with. Each of the petals are stitches with a very fat batting and slit is made on the back to turn them right sides out and then machine stitched down the center. They are applied on a round flat pillow and the pom poms were added.

Quilting

Two more projects that I have created: Front and back views of the stars. Each star is made separately and then hand tacked together. The stitching is all done on the machine using invisible thread and a three step stitch to make it look like it was hand done. Back

Front

The place mat is done using the "Cotton theory" which is you quilt before you join the blocks together and then there is a special way that you join using a 1" seam allowance and decorative stitches.

Quilting

These are two reversible quilts that I made and donated in April to the Sewing for Babies group. Two different sizes and fabrics from my stash. You quilt as you go by layering front, batting and back together and stitch the seam, then flip and add another row. Repeat and then flip the other way to cover the previous seams. I had to scrap the binding on the second quilt which is also smaller because I ran out of the fabrics that I was using.
